Activities:
Walking and trekking is one of the major attractions of Competa, it is a walkers paradise. A guide for walkers is an option and can be paid locally. Explore the beautiful wild nature in the Natural Park - let the Spanish horse riding adventure show you the flora, fauna and the gorgeous panoramas in the mountains of Almijara and Tejeda.

Horse riding on Andalusian horses - guided trekking in the Natural Park, lessons in the paddock for beginners as well as advanced riders from the hotel / trekking on hourly or daily rate.

Excellent 18 hole Golf Course approximately 15 minutes distance by car from the hotel. Petanque. Dancing at the hotel Monday evenings. Boules at the Hotel on Tuesday & Thursdays, Piano bar at the hotel.

Eating Out:
Alfresco eating in the pretty Competa village and local area is a delight, plentiful tapas bars offering fantastic local cuisine and delectable wines - a real treat for the senses and a gastronomic delight!

Shopping:
There are excellent opportunities for shopping in Competa, whether it be - for souvenirs, food, wine or general goods. Besides the central market on Saturdays is a well worth opportunity to browse for clothes and souvenirs handcrafted shawls, lace work, local art and embroidered lined. Local pottery and ceramics are good buys all made locally as part of a thriving cottage industry. Food and wine shopping is essential and the temptations of local bread, cheese and wine are most difficult to resist!

Nightlife:
Nightlife is mostly around the bars and restaurants in the small bustling village but if you wish a 20 - 30 minute taxi ride to the coast there are numerous interesting nightclubs and bars. Andalucia is the home of Flamenco. Jerez wine festival in September. August 15th Festival of wine. July 26th - 29th Fiesta. August 10th - 20th Bull fighting season at its height! - scarce seats can be booked at the hotel.

Places of interest:
Seville, sparkling capital of Andalucia, see the Cathedral and Giralda. Granada, the Moorish capital and famous Alhambra Palace. Picture post card Ronda, most famous of Andalucia's puebbls blancos'. Snow capped Sierra Nevada peaks - with summer skiing. Elegant Malaga.

Cost of living:
No longer really cheap, but remains inexpensive in comparison with the U.K.

Passport and visas
UK and all other EU nationals need only a valid passport for entry to Spain. For any other nationals please contact the Spanish Embassy.

Currency:
Spanish currency is now the Euro, with the exchange rate at around 1.45 Euro's to the sterling pound. (Nov 2003).

Health requirements:
No inoculations required. Water is pretty safe but bottled water is often preferable.
