Splendours of Morocco – essential travel tips!

Special notes for travellers

  • Passports need to be valid for 6 months after return date.
  • Due to the occasional sandstorms in Sahara, not advisable to wear contact lenses.
  • We would recommend you take your spending money in Cash as Cash machines are not reliable. Sterling cash / travellers cheque can be changed into local currency on arrival.

Recommended baggage

Please bring soft baggage as they will be stowed on the roof rack during journey. Also bring small nap knapsack for taking overnight gear to Erg Chegaga.

Pack light and pack layers. Weight limit – keep it to light and minimal!

  • T- shirts, blouses and loose trousers, combats or long skirts (no vests or short shorts).
  • A scarf or hat for protection from sun.
  • Fleece, light jacket and other long sleeve tops for evening.
  • Walking sandals with no heels, light walking boots and trainers. For final night in Marrakech anything is acceptable to wear, but not too revealing.
  • Bath towel.
  • Swim gear.
  • Sun glasses and high factor sun tan lotion cream / moisturiser, lip balm, toiletries and any personal medication.
  • Torch with batteries. Baby wipes.
  • Sealable plastic freezer bags to keep sand out of things.
  • Camera to capture the scenes!

Recommended treats for local children!

If you wish to offer treats to local children bring packets of hard sweets (not chocolate) and pens or pencils to give desert children who we may meet on our travels. Don’t give money to children – but give something to encourage them to go to school.

If you have any spare children’s clothes in good condition, shoes or school bags, small classroom equipment you wish to bring e.g. wall maps, rulers, stationary etc, we will happily pass them onto the 3 schools in the village of M’Hamid whilst on our trip.

Bring a sense of humour, stories and songs to share at camp fire!
